Next Tuesday, Greece celebrates the anniversary of its 1821 Revolution with a series of events planned in Attica. According to announcements from the General Secretariat for Media and Communication (GEME), here are the scheduled celebrations for March 25th. At 6:20 AM, there will be a firing of 21 celebratory rounds from the Lycabettus Hill artillery post and a performance of the Dawn Serenade by music units of the Armed Forces and Security Corps on central Athens streets. At 8:00 AM, there will be an official flag-raising ceremony at the Sacred Rock of the Acropolis. At 10:00 AM, a doxology will take place at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Evangelismos Theotokou in Athens, presided over by Archbishop Ieronymos II of Athens and All Greece. At 10:01 AM, another 21-gun salute will occur from Lycabettus Hill. At 10:55 AM, a wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier will be conducted by the President of the Hellenic Republic. At 11:00 AM, a military parade of Armed Forces and Security Corps units will march in front of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier under the President’s review. In the evening, at 6:41 PM, there will be an official flag-lowering ceremony at the Sacred Rock of the Acropolis accompanied by another 21-gun salute from Lycabettus Hill. Across the country, additional events include military parades, general flag displays at all units and naval vessels from Sunday morning until sunset on Tuesday, and illumination of installations during the evenings of Monday and Tuesday.
