Manos Bazigos (N. Bazigos): The Tough Bet of Greek Manufacturing

Few consumers stop to consider how the yogurt lid in their fridge ends up there. It needs an eye-catching label to stand out on the shelf — yet the packaging itself usually goes unnoticed. In reality, producing such items at scale and at an affordable price demands high-precision, cutting-edge machinery.

A Journey Hidden in Plain Sight

“That yogurt lid conceals a major journey of engineering know-how,” says Manos Bazigos, CEO of N. Bazigos, in an interview with newsit.gr. His company specializes in injection moulds, progressive die tools for metal and plastic forming, and high-accuracy mechanical components — the unsung enablers behind mass-produced goods.

From a Small Workshop to Industrial Innovation

N. Bazigos traces its roots to 1973 in Kamini, Piraeus, where founder Nikolaos Bazigos ran a small machine shop focused on tooling and die-making. Over time, the company earned market trust and deepened its technical expertise. By the early 1990s, it was among Greece’s first toolmakers to adopt Wire EDM (electrical discharge machining) and CNC milling — technologies that raised the bar for precision and repeatability.

Today, Bazigos develops custom mechanical solutions for applications ranging from thin-wall packaging and razor blade machines to renewable energy systems. Its export activity is robust — over 70% of its revenue comes from abroad, with recent shipments going to Canada, the U.S., Ireland, the UK, France, Bulgaria, Romania, Israel, and several Arab countries.

Beyond Tools: Automation and Global Reach

As Manos Bazigos explains, the company’s role sits at what he calls “industry’s narrow passage” — the critical interface where design, manufacturing, and real-world implementation converge to make consumer goods possible at scale. In recent years, Bazigos has expanded beyond toolmaking into automation — a strategic shift driven by tightening labor markets and rising demand for intelligent, integrated production systems.

In 2025, the company’s total turnover stood at approximately €16 million — a figure expected to grow further this year, albeit at a more moderate pace due to higher input costs and geopolitical uncertainty.

Given the limited size of the domestic market, international expansion is not optional — it’s essential. “A company aiming to grow must have a global footprint,” Bazigos emphasizes. Its patented technologies are already in use by global names including Coral Gas, BIC, and Landis+Gyr. As a capital-intensive business, Bazigos invests annually in new machinery and R&D to stay ahead of evolving industrial demands.
