Or she’s suspected of multiple financial offences. On Monday (16.09.2024) the “states” began before an independent committee, for the 115 charges facing the club. Manchester City is faced with 115 infringements of English league regulations regarding its finances and Monday (16.09.2024) began the crucial process, which the Press in England characterizes as “the trial of the century”. Manchester City has reportedly displayed increased accounting revenue through Etihad Airways, controlled by the United Arab Emirates, as well as City Football Group. The evidence held by the Premier League and the country’s federation comes from a five-year investigation, which began in 2018 and ended in February 2023. The decision is not expected to be taken immediately, as it will be several months before the process is completed. According to the newspaper “The Mirror” the verdict is expected in the early months of 2025, as City has the right to appeal if it is convicted in the first place. The investigation began when Der Spiegel published documents from Football Leaks in 2018, and City is accused of channelling money from its owners through sponsors to the United Arab Emirates. Under the regulations, the committee may impose penalties, including deduction of grades or prohibition of transcriptions. For its part the administration of the “states” denies the charges and is ready to lead the Premier League to the courts, attempting to legally insult the economic regulations of the English league, and will also seek compensation from the competent institutions. City players want to put an end to regulations concerning sponsorship agreements with companies affiliated with group owners, who were admitted to English football in 2021, when Newcastle was acquired by a Saudi investment group. The infringements charged by City are as follows: -54 cases of failure to provide updated financial information from 2009-10 to 2017-18. 14 cases of failure to report financial reports on player and coach compensation from 2009-10 to 2017. -5 cases of non-compliance with UEFA regulations, including UEFA regulations on clubs and licensing and UEFA regulations on Financial Fair Play. -7 cases of breach of Premier League (PSR) profitability and sustainability regulations from the 2015-16 to 2017-18 season. -35 cases of refusal to cooperate with Premier League investigations from December 2018 to today.
