Man died of plague in New Mexico

A man from New Mexico who was hospitalized with (pain) at the hospital, found it as announced by the Ministry of Health (NMDOH) of this American state. It is the first case of plague in New Mexico since 2021 and the first death since 2020. The man came from Lincoln County. Authorities communicate with his neighbors in the area and conduct extensive checks, seeking the source of his infection. Plague is a bacterial rodent disease, reports NMDOH in an announcement. Generally, it is transmitted to man through the stings of contaminated fleas. It can also spread with direct contact with infected animals, including rodents, wild animals and pets. Dogs and cats left wandering and hunting may bring infected fleas from dead rodents home. In this way they may endanger household members. The plague causes people sudden onset of fever, chills, headache and weakness. In most cases there is painful swelling of the lymph node in the groin, armpit or neck. Symptoms of plague in cats and dogs include fever, lethargy and anorexia. There may be swelling in the lymph node under the jaw.
