Makis Voridis on Revising Article 86 Regarding Ministerial Responsibility: ‘Not a Small Thing, Very Big Change’

In reference to the revision of Article 86 concerning ministerial responsibility, announced by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis during the discussion on the no-confidence motion in Parliament, Makis Voridis emphasized that it represents a ‘very big change.’ Speaking on MEGA TV Saturday morning (08.03.25), Voridis stated, ‘This is not a small matter.’ He highlighted that this initiative considers large protests and opposition stance but noted that it lacked ‘cool-headed evaluation.’ Additionally, he pointed out that the government abolished the short preventive cooling-off period and established investigative committees as a right for the minority. The Minister of Interior remarked on the deterioration of political discourse due to intense opposition and heavy allegations, such as labeling ministers as ‘murderers’ or accusing them of ‘cover-ups.’ He expressed the government’s intention to reverse these perceptions and clarify their efforts to facilitate justice rather than protect anyone from it. Regarding the state of Greek railways, Voridis acknowledged progress but stressed the need to meet European safety standards. On the legitimacy of the government, he reiterated that democratic elections and parliamentary processes legitimize a government, as demonstrated by Friday night’s vote where the majority MPs reaffirmed their support.
