Makis Voridis: “Left-wing hooligans attacked me, didn’t even spare my 12-year-old daughter”

Early Sunday morning (26.10.2025), Makis Voridis reacted to the shocking attack he suffered from around 50 masked individuals while dining with his family and friends at a restaurant in Heraklion. In a social media post, Voridis condemned the assault involving eggs, stones, tables, and chairs. He identified the perpetrators as ‘left-wing hooligans’ and emphasized that such actions do not intimidate him. He stressed that the attackers showed no respect for his family, including his 12-year-old daughter who witnessed the incident. ‘Left-wing hooligans unprovokedly attacked me yesterday at a restaurant in Heraklion, Crete, where I was on a private visit. I know them, and their despicable tactics neither surprise nor frighten me! I’ve lived like this my entire life. But they didn’t even respect my family—my 12-year-old daughter was there—or the children of families dining nearby who weren’t even with us. Unfortunately, we still have a long way to go to eradicate far-left violence,’ said the New Democracy MP. Government Spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis also issued a statement: ‘Every time, the so-called “known-unknowns” prove why they represent the worst form of fascism. Yesterday in Heraklion, Crete, they attacked Makis Voridis, showing no respect for his family. Respect is clearly a foreign concept to them. They don’t frighten us; instead, they make us stronger.’ The attack occurred Saturday night as Voridis dined with loved ones. Around 50 hooded individuals surrounded the restaurant, shouting anti-Voridis and anti-New Democracy slogans. They quickly began throwing eggs, stones, wood, chairs, and tables. Other patrons helped shield Voridis and escorted him and his family to the restaurant’s basement. Police arrived promptly and safely evacuated Voridis. The restaurant sustained damage, but no injuries were reported.
