A major police operation has been underway since Monday morning (June 23, 2025) in areas of Attica and Corinth to dismantle a fraud ring. Conducted by officers from the Economic Crime Division’s Anti-Economic Crime Department (DAOE), the operation targets a network involved in fraudulent activities against the Greek government and the European Union. Initial reports indicate that the network was implicated in cases involving fraudulent rental compensation claims due to Covid, refundable deposits, ESPA grants, and contributions to EFKA. According to preliminary estimates, the total damage caused exceeds €5.5 million. The ongoing operation has already resulted in the arrest of five members of the fraud ring.
