Madeleine McCann case: “No prospect” of charging the main suspect, he says

The German prosecutor investigating the little British woman said that there is currently no prospect of charges being filed against the main suspect in the case, as Sky News has broadcast today. Christian Brickner was officially named a suspect in 2020 in the case of the disappearance of Madeline McCann, whose tracks were lost from the hotel room where she lived with her family in Portugal in 2007 . He denies any involvement. CORVERSE Brickner, who is convicted of drug trafficking and sexual abuse of a minor, is serving a seven-year sentence of imprisonment in Germany for raping a woman in the Algarve area from where the girl disappeared. His sentence is completed in September 2025. In October Brickner was acquitted by a German court of unrelated rape and sexual abuse charges of children increasing the possibility of being released from prison this year. “There is currently no prospect of a charge being filed over the Madeleine McCann case,” German prosecutor Han Christian Volters said in an interview broadcast today, Friday (17.01.25) by Sky News. He added that as things stand now Brickner will be released early in September. CORVERSE Madeline McCann, then three years old, disappeared from the hotel room in the Praia da Luz resort, Portugal where she was vacationing with her parents while they were dining with company somewhere nearby. Her luck has since remained unknown and no body has been found. German police announced in June 2020 that Madeline McCann is considered dead and that Brickner, at the age of 40 today, is probably the culprit. The prosecutor said he would request a new arrest warrant for Brickner to remain in prison after September. One of Brickner’s advocates, invoked by Sky News, said his defense team would oppose such a move.
