French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Cyprus on Monday, 9 March 2026, for high-level talks with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.
Strong Signal of EU Solidarity
The visit underscores France’s support for Cyprus as a European Union member state — one that came under drone attack last week targeting the British Royal Air Force (RAF) base at Akrotiri. According to an official statement from the French Presidency, Macron’s trip is intended to reaffirm solidarity with Cyprus amid heightened regional security concerns.
Diplomatic Coordination Amid Regional Tensions
Macron will hold separate meetings with both leaders in Nicosia. The Greek government had previously confirmed the planned trilateral coordination, though it had not yet announced the date. France deployed defensive systems and a frigate to the eastern Mediterranean island last week following the drone strike — a move reflecting growing Franco-Cypriot and Franco-Greek strategic cooperation.
