There are 40 original pages of Morris’ legendary “Luke” from the house of Christie’s. The auction is expected to generate profits from 2.7 to 3.4 million euros, according to Christie’s. The comic book sketches designed by Belgian Morris, with cowboy Lucky Luke, will be exhibited first at the house offices in Brussels, Paris and Geneva. According to the auction house, this is a “global first” for Maurice’s work, whose real name was Maurice de Bever (1923–2001), who described the adventures of “poor, only cowboy” between 1947–2001. Maurice signed a total of 72 albums by “Luki Luke”, originally alone and then in collaboration with legendary French author and comic writer Renee Gosini, with whom they met in New York. Their cooperation lasted until the latter’s early death in 1977. The 50 original pages come from an equal number of albums. “Luki Luke” was translated into 30 languages and sold more than 300 million issues around the world. After Maurice died in 2001 other comic designers undertook to continue his work. “Luki Luke” also experienced great success in television and cinema.
