A violent knife attack in Lower Achaia stemmed from a family dispute, authorities confirmed. A 52-year-old man stabbed his 35-year-old cousin in the back during a heated argument at a family gathering in the Tsinganika area.
Escalation During Family Gathering
The incident occurred late Thursday evening at a private residence. According to reports from PatraPress.gr, tensions flared after a verbal altercation — reportedly triggered when the 35-year-old insulted the brother of the 52-year-old suspect.
The confrontation escalated rapidly. The 52-year-old allegedly intervened to protect his brother and, using a 21-centimeter kitchen knife, struck the younger man twice in the shoulder blade.
Arrest and Evidence
After the attack, the suspect fled but was arrested by police from the Western Achaia Criminal Investigation Department at 5:00 a.m. on Friday (May 15, 2026), as he returned home. Officers recovered the bloodstained knife — later seized as evidence — from the kitchen sink.
The suspect now faces charges of attempted homicide. The victim underwent surgery and is hospitalized at the Saint Andrew General Hospital in Patras.
Past Involvement in Domestic Violence Cases
According to local sources, the 35-year-old victim has previously drawn police attention in connection with domestic violence incidents.
