A high-stakes mystery has unfolded around the disappearance of Chinese real estate agent Yu Ting from Loutsa, a coastal town east of Athens. As investigations continue, authorities are closely examining her professional activities in the days leading up to her vanishing on May 20 — just hours after leaving her home in Loutsa for an appointment in central Athens, which she never attended.
The Gas Station Deal
At the center of emerging questions is a gas station in central Athens, legally registered under Yu Ting’s name. Two Chinese women who say they co-purchased the station told Live News that Yu Ting and another Chinese associate misled them. One buyer claimed: “Yu Ting and my other Chinese partner deceived me. They asked me to join them in buying a gas station. We were supposed to invest €100,000 — money I borrowed from my mother, brother, and a friend. We did invest, but later she said I wasn’t suitable to be a partner — so neither of us ultimately moved forward with the investment.”
Yu Ting’s husband, also interviewed by Live News, stated that his family had paid €70,000 toward the same station two years ago — and received nothing in return.
Another buyer explained they met Yu Ting through a mutual acquaintance two years ago and agreed she would serve as the station’s official manager — primarily because, he said, “we needed her passport.” He added: “We paid €70,000 — and lost it all. We’re not friends or business partners with Yu Ting. In fact, we’ve been paying her €500 every month — just for the use of her passport, since she’s the registered holder. That payment continues monthly.”
The same man, who has lived in Greece for the past 20 years and runs a Chinese clothing shop in central Athens, said the previous Greek owners never disclosed outstanding public debts when the station was sold. “They told us it was a clean, debt-free business,” he said. “Now they claim we must pay those debts — even more than the original purchase price.”
The Nice Meeting
Investigators are now focusing on Yu Ting’s contacts and meetings in the days before her disappearance. A key witness — who voluntarily gave sworn testimony — described a meeting held four days prior to her vanishing in Nikaia, a suburb of Piraeus.
According to the witness, attendees included Yu Ting, a real estate agent, a Chinese national (whom the witness says he never saw again), a priest, and a retired police officer. “The Chinese man came to the meeting — I haven’t seen him since,” the witness recalled. “I went, we had coffee, we sat down.”
