Loutsa: The Unkept Appointment of the Missing Chinese Real Estate Agent

Since May 20, the whereabouts of Yu Ting — a 50-year-old Chinese real estate agent based in Loutsa, a coastal town northeast of Athens — have been unknown. More than 50 days have passed since her disappearance, and Greek authorities are reportedly examining potential financial motives. Investigators are also closely reviewing witness accounts and evidence tied to a scheduled appointment she was supposed to attend that same day — an appointment she never kept.

A Ghost Building in Central Athens

The meeting was set to take place in central Athens, inside a largely vacant apartment building often described as a ‘ghost building’ — its shutters permanently lowered, windows sealed, and no visible signs of regular occupancy. Locals say they rarely saw residents entering or exiting; instead, only construction workers and occasional Chinese nationals carrying suitcases were spotted.

‘We arrived at our appointment with the plumber — it was 4 p.m. on the 20th — and she never showed up,’ said the building’s property manager. ‘I searched for her. Chen searched. Lei searched. No one found anything. She vanished completely.’

Some neighbors assumed no one lived there at all — the shutters were always down, doors never open. ‘The shutter is always closed. The door is never left open — only when people come and go. I thought nobody lived there,’ he added.

Ownership and Mystery

According to Live News, the second and fourth floors of the building are jointly owned by six Chinese nationals — three on each floor. Yet the property manager says he has never met or even seen most of them. ‘I only know one lawyer and a man named Chen. The others? I’ve never laid eyes on them — don’t even know their names,’ he said.

When an issue arose involving plumbing, he contacted one of the owners — a Chinese woman — only to learn she lives in China and had entrusted her keys to Yu Ting. He explained that all six owners are represented by a man named Chen, while one of the apartments belongs to a woman named Lei — a friend of Yu Ting’s. Lei and Yu communicated regularly, coordinated appointments via WhatsApp, and had confirmed the May 20 meeting the day before. But when the manager and plumber arrived, Yu Ting was nowhere to be found.
