Los Angeles: Satellite images of fire hell – Arrests for loot, ash thousands of acres

Satellite images depicting the magnitude of the biblical disaster in the disaster that broke out last Tuesday (07.01.2025) and in no time took huge proportions with 5 dead, so far, and has made ashes of thousands of homes and has left over 130,000 homeless people-, causing shock. The two largest fires that burn Los Angeles from the west and east remain out of control, despite efforts made by firefighters – in the photos published by Reuters, it seems how quickly the fire spread and has burned thousands of acres. CORVERSE The fire in the suburb of Pacific Palisades, with the luxury villas of celebrities, “is one of the worst natural disasters in Los Angeles” said city fire chief, Kristin Crowley. But the firefighters managed to intercept the flames in Hollywood Hills. CORVERSE The Palisades fire, between Santa Monica and Malibu, on the west side of the city, as well as the Eaton fire to the east, near Pasadena, are already the most devastating in the history of the city. 7,000 acres have already been burned and whole neighborhoods turned into ash. At least five people were killed, thousands of buildings burned and nearly 180,000 people received evacuation orders and were forced to leave their homes. The victims’ account is likely to increase, Sheriff Robert Luna said at the press conference he gave Thursday morning. The spread of the Eaton fire has stopped, said fire chief in Los Angeles County, Anthony Marone, however it is still not controlled at all. The heavy winds that breathed in the previous days were cut, which means that firefighters will now have critical help from aerial means. “We are in a much better position than we were on Tuesday and Wednesday,” said Marown. Authorities have warned, however, that wind discharges, up to 60 miles an hour, will continue throughout the day. Crowley said residents should be ready to leave if asked. Firefighters, with the help of helicopters pouring water and retardant fluid, managed to limit during the night the Sunset Fire, because of which Hollywood and Hollywood Hills had been evacuated. No buildings were burned in this area and the evacuation order has now been lifted. Sunset was only one of five different fires still burning in Los Angeles County, after months of drought. Los Angeles mayor Karen Bass described “perfect storm” the dangerous conditions prevailing in the area. The two largest fires, Palisades and Eaton, form a “tannel” around the city, so large that it is visible from space. Arrests for looting Los Angeles County sheriff, Robert Luna said police arrested at least 20 people for looting in homes damaged or destroyed by the fires. “Last night and this morning, we have so far 20 people who have chosen to go to our regions and deprive these poor people who have gone through so much of their property. Absolutely unacceptable,” Luna told reporters at a press conference Thursday morning (09.01.2024). Luna said he expects more criminals to be arrested for looting. “We are not going to tolerate such activities,” he said.
