Fires in Los Angeles caused by hurricane-sized winds struck prosperous neighborhoods, killed at least five people and forced more than 100,000 residents to leave their homes. Right now there are five fires burning all over Los Angeles. The full economic impact will not become clear until the flames are reduced. However, AccuWeather’s first estimates which estimated damages and financial losses at $52 to 57 billion, could make it the worst fire incident in California’s history, given the number of fortunes that could be burned. CORVERSE But beyond California, the estimated cost of fires in Los Angeles ranks the incident among the most expensive disasters in all the US. The fires have burned down more than 27,000 acres, upsetting life in America’s second largest city. Houses and businesses were burned, schools and roads were closed, air quality dropped vertically and thousands of displaced residents were searching for room in hotels or seeking shelter from friends and relatives. TV footage showed houses burning in the Studio City neighborhood and helicopters pouring water into Hollywood hills on Wednesday night. The night before, fire-fighting aircraft had been pinned down due to the intense winds, making efforts to combat fires difficult. CORVERSE The offshore winds that have fomented the fires with fires over 129 kilometres an hour are expected to last until Thursday, while another windstorm could follow next week, without rain in between. Since the 1994 Northridge earthquake a disaster has occurred that affected so many lives throughout the city at the same time. In Palisades, homes worth several million dollars were burned as firefighters drew more water from the hydrants than the system could provide – they dried them and forced the city to bring in mobile tanks. The flames approached the Malibu seaside, where residents faced the possibility of abandoning a fire for the second time within a month. Essentially the entire community of Altadina was under mandatory evacuation order from the deadly fire Iton, which broke out Tuesday night at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains.
