Today, Monday (June 16, 2025), according to the liturgical calendar, the memory of Saints Mnemonius and Tychon, the wonderworking bishops of Amathus, is celebrated. The names celebrated today include Mnemonius, Tychon, and Tichon. Saint Tychon the Wonderworker, bishop, lived during the reigns of Emperors Arcadius and Honorius. Born into a pious family, his virtuous parents raised him ‘in the discipline and admonition of the Lord.’ Due to this upbringing, Tychon quickly distinguished himself for his character, wisdom, discernment, and study of the Holy Scriptures. At a young age, Bishop Mnemonius ordained him as a deacon, recognizing his rare virtues. Soon after, his virtue and excellent teaching activity made him the successor of Mnemonius. As a bishop, he excelled in administrative gifts, philanthropy, and spreading the word of God, converting many idolaters. Saint Tychon destroyed numerous pagan temples and erected Christian ones in their place. He was also granted the gift of miracles by the Almighty God, performing many wonders, healings, and acts of charity. Through his fervent prayers, he even revived the barren and dry land of the region to help impoverished and weak farmers who had fallen on hard times. He lived a life of prayer, asceticism, fasting, humility, and above all, fought until his last breath for Orthodoxy and truth. He passed away peacefully and was mourned with great emotion.
