A shipwreck occurred Thursday morning (03.04.2025), resulting in the loss of seven lives off the island of Lesbos. The incident happened northeast of the island. So far, a Super Puma helicopter has located seven bodies, while 23 people have been rescued. Intensive searches continue for one missing person. Among the victims are a girl and a boy. A total of 31 people were on board the dinghy. Survivors will be transferred to the Kara Tepe facility for registration. Rescue efforts involve four patrol boats from the Coast Guard, an additional vessel, a Super Puma helicopter, and land forces with vehicles from the Police and Coast Guard. Weather conditions in the area are good, with winds at 3 Beaufort, suggesting the shipwreck was likely due to handling error. The Coast Guard recovered debris from the plastic dinghy at Kaya Koraka beach, where migrants’ belongings were also found.
