(Title) function pilot biometric access control systems in critical facilities of international airport “Macedonia” Thessaloniki is lawful under certain conditions by the Authority for the Protection of Personal Data.
Such authorization the Authority had asked the company 3D General Aviation Inc. The facility will be made in the research project TURBINE (“Trusted Revocable Biometric Identities” – “trusted repealer Biometric Identity Cards”) implemented by the company in cooperation with other European partners and financed by the European Commission.
According to the decision, using this method is achieved “the recognition of individuals solely through biometric identities without requiring the maintenance of the actual biometric fingerprinting”.
The function of the biometric system for a month at the airport “Macedonia” would be to pilot test in real conditions (except laboratory).
The biometric data system to be kept until completion of the project and final approval by the European Commission ( ΙοÏνιος 2011).
