Legal Notice Filed Against Former Ministers Over Tempi Train Disaster

A legal notice has been filed today (13/03/2025) by the lawyers of the family of one of the victims of the Tempi train disaster, Agapi Tsaklidis, against former ministers Kostas Karamanlis and Christos Spiridis. According to Damianos Balasoulis, the lawyer representing the victim’s family, the notice relates to agreement 717 and the reduction of staff at the Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE). The lawyer asserts that the charge of willful disruption is being laid out because, according to gathered evidence, ‘the then-ministers were aware of the risks but allowed the operation of the railway network.’ He emphasized, ‘We leave open the possibility of investigating responsibilities at even higher levels.’ Furthermore, he added that safety deficiencies continue to persist. ‘This notice is part of an ongoing fight for uncovering the truth, despite the legal framework protecting political figures,’ concluded Balasoulis. Meanwhile, today before the examining magistrate investigating the Tempi train tragedy, three witnesses are testifying: two fire department officers and one police officer who have been called to provide supplementary statements.
