Lebanon: Why Israel Now Fired Explosives To Hezbollah Pagers · Global Voices

Israel’s decision to blow up the pagers who had its members in and Syria yesterday, Tuesday (17.09.2024) raises fears of a new ignition in the Middle East that will end in total war. Hundreds of Hezbollah members pagers exploded almost simultaneously across the country in Lebanon, killing 11 people, including one child and injuring 4,000 others. The “mysterious” incident occurred amid the increasing tension between Israel and Tehran-backed Hezbollah. The pagers exploded one day after Israeli leaders warned that they were considering intensifying their military campaign against Hezbollah. Israel has not commented whether it was behind the attacks, but tensions between the two countries have already increased. Hezbollah threatened to fight back for the beeper business. The explosions occurred in supermarkets, barber shops, roads, cars, and even homes. Fears of total war There are three theories why Israel revealed yesterday its penetration into the Hezbollah network says CNN correspondent in the Middle East Alistair Bunkall. “One is that their cover may have been revealed and said either now or never”. “Second theory is they wanted to prevent Hezbollah”. Bunkall continues with regard to the third and most alarming: “The theory that is most alarming and possibly the most likely is that it is the preamble to something greater. Perhaps the first moves before a total war.” People in the region and the US fear that Israel will “use chaos now” and attack Hezbollah “even harder,” he adds.
