Two Lebanese soldiers were killed in a raid that targeted “directly” their position today (17.11.2024) in the south, according to an updated account announced by the army. “A second soldier was killed in a blow by Israel that targeted directly a military position in al-Marie,” the Lebanese army told X, after announcing that the first soldier was killed and three others were injured, with one’s wounds being serious. With these deaths, the account of the dead soldiers who have been killed since the start of the open war between the powerful Islamist movement Hezbollah and the Israeli army on 23 September, amounts to 13. On October 24, the Lebanese army had announced that three of its soldiers, among them an officer, were killed by Israeli fire in southern Lebanon. A few hours ago, American Defence Minister Lloyd Austin had expressed to his Israeli counterpart “his intense concern” over previous Israeli army fire from which three Lebanese soldiers were also killed. Beirut states ready to deploy more Lebanese soldiers in the southern part of the country, a zone that has been targeted daily by Israel that wants to neutralize Hezbollah to stop the rocket fire that has been firing against Israeli territory since the start of the Gaza war.
