Two people were killed on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, in an Israeli drone strike in Nabatieh, southern Lebanon — despite the ongoing ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, according to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA).

The victims died from an Israeli drone strike ‘near a hospital,’ the NNA reported.

This incident followed another attack earlier in Nabatieh that killed four civilians traveling in a car. Among the dead was a school principal, the NNA said.

Tensions between Israel and Lebanon have escalated after recent comments by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in a Fox News interview. Netanyahu claimed that ‘Christian villages in Lebanon have asked to join Israel because we protect them from Hezbollah extremists who want to kill them.’ He added that Israel ‘does the same for Christians across the Middle East.’ However, he did not specify which villages he was referring to, nor clarified whether such requests were made formally or informally.
