Latvian AirBaltic cancels over 4,000 flights due to maintenance problems

AirBaltic announced today (02.01.2025) the cancellation of at least 4.670 flights in 2025 from its air bases in Riga, Vilnius, Tampere and Tallinn, due to engine maintenance problems on its Airbus aircraft fleet. “Cancellations are the result of unexpected delays and prolonged engine maintenance by (American) supplier Pratt & Whitney,” stressed AirBaltic airline, based in Latvia. CORVERSE The company, controlled by the Latvian State with 97.97% of the shares, criticised the supplier for its “incapacity to comply with maintenance obligations” within the required deadlines, which has an impact on the operations of AirBaltic’s Airbus A220-300 fleet, forcing it to adapt its summer schedule, is underlined in the Latvian carrier’s communication. Most of the destinations affected by these cancellations are routes at British airports and summer resorts in Mediterranean countries. AirBaltic’s fleet currently consists of 49 Airbus A220-300.
