A shocking incident of domestic violence unfolded Wednesday morning (24.06.2026) in Larissa, central Greece, between a 50-year-old man and his 45-year-old ex-wife.
Hostage Situation in Filippoupoli Neighborhood
According to local news site onlarissa.gr, the man stormed into his former wife’s home in the Filippoupoli district of Larissa after becoming enraged over a court ruling concerning custody and visitation rights for their children. Once inside, he locked her inside the residence, brandishing an axe and holding a container with an unknown substance. He threatened to set both her and the house on fire.
Emergency Response and Negotiation
A family member of the woman alerted police, who responded immediately—accompanied by an EKAB ambulance and two fire department vehicles carrying four firefighters, deployed as a precaution. Police officers initiated negotiations with the suspect in an effort to secure the woman’s safe release.
Resolution and Arrest
After several hours, the man agreed to release his ex-wife and surrendered to authorities. He was subsequently arrested and brought before the Larissa Single-Member Misdemeanor Court this morning. The hearing was postponed to Friday, and the suspect remains in custody pending trial. A defense attorney has been appointed to represent him.
