The Ionian Highway is closed in both directions this morning (2/2/2026) due to a landslide. Initially, only the lane toward Patras was shut, but authorities closed the opposite direction as well due to high risk. The landslide occurred at kilometer 127 near Sykoula, on the border of Arta and Aetolia-Acarnania prefectures. Mountain terrain has visibly shifted, prompting an on-site inspection by New Roads S.A. personnel and deployment of the Hellenic Fire Service. Traffic is being diverted to the old National Road from Ioannina to Antirrio. According to New Roads S.A., full diversion is in effect between the Arta and Amfilochia interchanges. All necessary safety and signage measures have been implemented to ensure driver safety and information clarity.
