Lakis Gavalas: Revealing His Complex Journey with Sexuality

In a candid personal revelation about his sexuality, Lakis Gavalas opened up in an interview with Petros Kostopoulos. He disclosed an incident that occurred roughly a year ago. “There are times when I feel bi because I have attraction towards women,” Gavalas began. “And other times, I’m highly attracted to masculine men! The sound of a hand hitting the table can be electrifying.” He further explained, “I don’t always know if I want to go all the way for sex. It’s the interaction that interests me, what excites me generally. Writing a poem on my phone or holding hands excites me more than intercourse itself.” Gavalas continued, reflecting on his relationships, saying, “When I invest time to get to know someone, why should sex define me? In recent years, I’ve been with women, yes. I went to an event and there was a woman accompanied by her partner! That night, I was genuinely electrified.” Known for being open in interviews, the entrepreneur and designer recounted another story: “I had an office in Kallithea and would visit taverns. One late night, I stopped on Sygrou Street thinking someone flagged me down! We started talking, then had a deeper conversation later. She grabbed my hand and said, ‘Listen, you’re a man and haven’t figured it out yet.’ In my line of work, I encountered this person. After leaving prison, I went to Koridallos to present a book. There was Yola, who was the first person to kiss me back in school when I was 13. At school, I didn’t feel drawn to boys.”
