La Tribune: Greece pushes France to block sale of Meteor missiles to Turkey for Eurofighters

Turkey is very close to acquiring Eurofighter Typhoon fighter aircraft, but the key factor for reaching a final agreement is the air-air type Meteor, by taking action politically and diplomaticly. In particular, the newspaper La Tribune said that France is under pressure from both Britain and Greece on the release of powerful missiles. CORVERSE On the one hand, London wants the agreement to be successfully concluded with Turkey so it is pressing for Paris to give the “green light” to sell Meteors to Ankara. On the other hand, according to it, Athens expressed its opposition to Paris, because if the sale of the Meteors available to the Greek Air Force in Turkey is approved, then it will be lost. As we have already said, Turkey is in advanced talks with Britain, which is a co-producer of the European Eurofighter Typhoon fighter. CORVERSE “Edoğan sows discord” France, which has been a stable ally of Greece in the region, has for many years not sold arms to Turkey and has been able to ‘block’ the sale of Meteors, which are jointly manufactured through cooperation of six countries (British, France, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Spain). As La Tribune says, Turkey’s president Recep Tayyip Erdogan “soars discord” between France, Greece and Britain, while the acquisition of powerful air-to-air missiles “would allow Turkish aviation to compete with the Greek Rafale armed with Meteor r”. The release of ‘lethal’ missiles is, as it all seems, the key point to judge whether Turkey will proceed with the acquisition of the 40 Eurofighter Typhoon fighters.
