La Rinconada is located in and is known as the tallest city in the world, since it is built at an altitude of 5,100 meters. The city in the heart of the Peruvian Andeans is famous mainly for the gold mine, the high levels of crime, but for the adverse conditions under which 50,000 people try to survive. CORVERSE Most of them suffer from hypoxia due to reduced oxygen and have an increased number of red blood cells and haemoglobin. At the same time, the city has no sewer system, plumbing and roads. Besides, there is also a significant problem of mercury contamination, due to gold mining practices, but the strong stench of garbage ending a few meters outside the city. CORVERSE In addition, several houses are made of aluminium, resulting in a chilly cold during the winter season next to the snowy mountaintops. In a video posted by Italian Yutuber, Zazza described La Rinconada as a more inhuman place in the world, since it is a vast slum. Zazza visits the most dangerous districts in the world, where criminal organizations operate, however, in La Rinconada he lived the worst experience of his life, remaining stunned with the images he faced. After a three-hour trip from the city of Juliaca, Youtuber described the destination as extremely “dangerous”, while he felt dizzy as he walked through the city. During the journey, Youtuber was accompanied by two police officers for his safety. Most residents work in the gold mine owned by Corporación Ananea, 30 days a month without payment, according to the working system called “cachorreo”. But on the 31st day they are allowed to take as much ore as they can carry on their shoulders. However, the degraded gold mining city is full of criminals who dress, just like miners. “They even rob pedestrians, stealing ores from mine workers and then hide in narrow alleys,” explained a police officer in the video. “They can commit any criminal action and it is not easy to identify them,” he added. But the police officer made it clear that the robbers spend the money on stealing drugs and drinking alcohol. “Some residents are even searching inside the thrown rocks, trying to find small pieces of gold,” Zazza said on his side.
