The General Hospital of Attica was visited on Tuesday (24/06/2025) by the Prime Minister, who had the opportunity to speak with citizens and members of the nursing staff. Kyriakos Mitsotakis was guided by Deputy Health Minister Mario Themistokleous through the fully renovated Emergency Department (ED) at KAT, whose spaces have been expanded and modernized. The ED now has the capacity to handle emergencies of all severity levels, serving approximately 87,000 patients annually. Mitsotakis also visited other hospital units, including the fully renovated rehabilitation center on the 5th floor, and was updated on the progress of works on the remaining floors. He also had the chance to converse with citizens and staff, including doctors who returned to Greece from abroad. ‘This is our home,’ one doctor who returned from the UK told him. Mitsotakis was informed by the administrator Ioannis Iliopoulos about the enhanced capabilities of KAT, whose budget increased by nearly 70% in the previous five years, reaching €66.3 million in 2024. The number of employees has risen by 191 since 2019, totaling 1,480 today. As a result, KAT performs 15,000 surgeries annually, and around 110,000 citizens are served each year in its outpatient clinics. The projects at KAT are part of the broader plan to upgrade all levels of the public health system, funded by the Recovery and Resilience Fund. According to reports, within the next few months, renovation and upgrading works are expected to be completed in 16 more EDs in Attica.
