Kyriakos Mitsotakis: ‘Vertical Corridor Is Strategic Investment’

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis emphasized the strategic importance of the Vertical Corridor for natural gas and LNG, highlighting its role in enhancing energy autonomy across the Balkans up to Ukraine. Speaking during a meeting with former Bulgarian Prime Minister Boyko Borisov, he stated: ‘I want to underline the importance of the Vertical Corridor—it is a significant and strategic investment for both countries as we seek to reduce dependence on Russian natural gas.’ He noted that Greece’s strategic cooperation with the U.S. is already delivering tangible results, citing yesterday’s first agreement to transport natural gas from Greece to Ukraine. Mitsotakis stressed that the Vertical Corridor extends beyond energy—it encompasses highways, trade, and full connectivity among Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine—significantly boosting the geopolitical value of these nations.
