Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis will present the National Strategy for the Prevention and Handling of Youth Violence and Delinquency at 10:00 AM on Monday (5.5.25) at Maximos Mansion. The new policy aims to address youth violence, described by government officials as a challenging endeavor due to the vulnerability of young people and the disruptive impact of modern technologies on this phenomenon. According to Justice Minister Akis Skertzos, speaking before Easter at the Delphi Economic Forum, since 2019, 139 policies have been implemented across ten different ministries to prevent and combat violence. The strategy introduces an additional 29 policies with 69 new measures, including five horizontal ones. Notable initiatives include ‘Kids Wallet’ for parental control over internet use and ‘Age Verification’ for age certification when registering on platforms. Education Minister Sophia Zacharakis has announced plans to bring parents, educators, and children together to create a unified response against school bullying. The strategy addresses various forms of violence faced by young people, particularly domestic, cyber, and school-based bullying. A press conference with ten ministers will follow at 12:30 PM to detail these initiatives, highlighting the government’s commitment and the complexity of the issue.
