Kyriakos Mitsotakis: Targeted denationalizations make life better for all citizens

“The targeted work not only for the benefit of public finances, but also make life better for all citizens,” the prime minister points out in a Facebook post Monday afternoon (7.10. 24), on the occasion of the new Convention on the Attic Road ratified last week by the Parliament. As Kyriakos Mitsotakis points out in his posting, “every thought-out move in the field of denationalizations creates multiplier benefits to the economy and society.” “The participation of investors in ports and regional airports radically improves infrastructure, upgrades our tourist services, opens new horizons for each region, for the benefit of employment and local communities,” the prime minister stresses. Noting that targeted denationalizations mean the country’s credibility abroad. The post of Kyriakos Mitsotakis Last week we ratified the new Convention on the Attiki Way by filling in a “11th” of denationalizations from the elections of 2023, with total revenue in favour of the public reaching 7.1 billion euros. On this occasion I would like to point out that ultimately targeted denationalizations work not only for the benefit of public finances, but also make life better for all citizens! That’s because they mean lower charges: Drivers using the Attic Road already understand the difference. As of Sunday they pay tolls 2.5 euros out of 2.8 euros, while the IXs carrying our disabled fellow citizens, like the vans for disabled persons, are exempt from any payment. They mean lower debt and higher tax revenues: With the new contract the public received the record amount of 3.27 billion, which automatically reduces public debt by 1.5 percentage points of GDP, while each year it will receive part of the concessionaire’s revenue. But if we go to the big picture, and there we will find that every thought-provoked movement in the area of decolonization creates multiplier benefits to the economy and society. It means better services for everyone: The participation of investors in ports and regional airports radically improves infrastructure, upgrades our tourist services, opens new horizons for each region, for the benefit of employment and local communities. It means the country’s credibility abroad: Our reform initiatives in the banking sector bring new capital and investors, certify the upgrading of our economy and are implemented for the benefit of Greek taxpayers, who paid dearly in the recent past of adventures and experiments. Overall, the denationalization programme we are implementing, proposes the reformist nature with a positive footprint for the country. It brings better services for citizens, more investment, reliable infrastructure especially in the region, and less burdens for future generations through the significant reduction in public debt.
