Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis delivered a speech on Monday, 13 July, at the signing ceremony for the Skaramagkas Triple Junction agreement — a major infrastructure project aimed at easing chronic traffic congestion in Western Attica.
A Symbolic Step for a Long-Neglected Area
Speaking at the Botanical Garden of Diomedes in Haidari, Mitsotakis opened his address by reflecting on the area’s long-standing neglect: “Every time we pass through this region, we see an image frozen in time — a forgotten place. Today, I am honored to attend the signing of an exceptionally important project, not only for Western Attica but for the entire Athens Basin.”
The Project at a Glance
The €40.8 million agreement was signed between the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and the contractor consortium METKA ATE – Domiki Kritis AE. The Skaramagkas junction — where approximately 100,000 vehicles pass daily, including nearly 20,000 heavy trucks — has long been one of the most critical bottlenecks in the region.
Once completed, the triple junction is expected to significantly improve traffic flow, enhance road safety, and support broader economic development across the Athens Basin.
