In a detailed statement regarding the decision to return an entire month’s rent to tenants every November, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis addressed the public through a TikTok video posted Sunday morning (April 27, 2025). “If you pay rent, you need to see this video! For the first time, we have decided and are implementing something simple but very substantial. The state pays one month’s rent for you annually,” Mitsotakis initially stated in the video. Furthermore, he added, “We aren’t handing out bonuses; we’re returning the economy’s gains with permanent measures. We return the surplus from growth and the fight against tax evasion where it belongs—back to you.” This initiative follows his televised message after Eurostat’s announcement of the primary surplus last Tuesday (April 22, 2025), confirming that these measures are permanent and include the annual return of one month’s rent to tenants in November, providing 250 euros (net) to 1.5 million pensioners and social security beneficiaries each November, and allocating an additional 500 million euros for public projects and social actions.
