Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis marked the inauguration of the E65 Central Greece Motorway with a new social media video posted today (24 June 2026), under the slogan “We said it, we did it.”
A Promise Fulfilled
The video juxtaposes footage from Mitsotakis’s December 2019 announcement — when he pledged to negotiate with the European Union to complete the northern section of the E65 — with scenes from today’s official opening ceremony. In the 2019 clip, he stated: “We will find a way to negotiate with the European Union for the northern segment of the E65. This road will not remain incomplete — that is my personal commitment.”
A Symbol of Transformation
At the inauguration, Mitsotakis emphasized that the E65 stands as tangible proof of national progress: “It demonstrates that Greece can change — and does change — every single day.”
Toward the end of the video, he directly addressed questions about the use of Recovery Fund resources: “And let me say it again — when people ask where the Recovery Fund money went… Here it went. Right here.”
In his accompanying post, Mitsotakis wrote: “We said it, we did it. The Central Greece Motorway E65 is now officially handed over to our fellow citizens — an impressive, modern, and safe infrastructure project that proves Greece is changing daily.”
