Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis visited the newly renovated Health Center in Megara, one of 160 health centers across Greece being upgraded with Recovery Fund resources. This initiative aims to improve public health infrastructure and digitize services at all levels. The renovation covered approximately 1,200 square meters and included modernizing equipment, replacing floors and roofs in the laboratory, emergency department, restrooms, and other rooms. Additionally, new water and sewage systems were installed, along with electrical installations and energy upgrades like thermal insulation, heat pumps, and a 550W photovoltaic unit. During his visit, accompanied by Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis and Deputy Health Minister Eirini Agapidaki, Mitsotakis discussed the dramatic transformation of the facility with staff members. The center now operates 24/7, serving the entire Megara region. Staffing has increased by 15 personnel since 2019, with plans for more hires. In his speech, Mitsotakis highlighted the successful use of EU funds and praised the team’s efforts in keeping the center operational during renovations. He also emphasized Greece’s digital health advancements, aiming to lead Europe in patient records and telemedicine. Finally, he thanked healthcare workers for their dedication, especially during the pandemic, promising continued support through salary improvements.
