Kyriakos Mitsotakis: Greece can become a pioneer in artificial intelligence – The discussion with Andreas Stavros in the context of “GenAI Summit”

Discussion with Andreas Stavros had earlier on Monday (18.11.2024) at an event for her at Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. Andreas Stavropoulos, who was discussed by the Prime Minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis is a member of the Advisory Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Vice President of Endeavor Greece. The discussion took place at the International Conference “GenAI Summit” held at the Cultural Centre of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation. At the beginning of the debate Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed two important issues regarding artificial intelligence: Her relationship with Democracy and her relationship with children and learning, saying that “Greece can become a pioneer in the EU and not limit innovation”. The Prime Minister also referred to the transformation of the educational process, saying that there is no substitute for the classroom and personal contact of the teacher with the students, and raised the addiction observed to young people with social network algorithms. However, we must also see what public infrastructure is needed for companies. We must also see what Europe is doing in the whole with the gap in competitiveness towards the US in this area. The trend towards investment money and company movements is from Europe to the US, precisely because the US has a regulatory environment and not 27 like Europe,” the Prime Minister added. At another point in the debate and a question about whether artificial intelligence will abolish work, Kyriakos Mitsotakis replied that the important thing is “to see how it can enhance productivity in areas such as health or public health.” “Other jobs will be lost and others will be created, but in the medium term I do not think we will see jobs disappear,” the prime minister commented.
