“The projects we are delivering have no connection to the timing of elections,” said Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in a televised interview with OPEN TV. Speaking on the channel, he emphasized that “the pre-election period began for us on day one after the last elections.”
Elections Not Scheduled for Autumn
Mitsotakis confirmed early in the interview: “Elections will not be held this autumn.”
Transparency and Fiscal Responsibility
On budgetary accuracy and costed policy proposals, he added: “The government will have the opportunity at the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF) to present its economic planning for the next four-year term. In a country scarred by debt and false promises, I consider it our duty to ensure all initiatives are fully costed. We know precisely how much money we will spend each year. It’s absurd to argue over the cost of the 13th pension when we already know the figure. It’s easy to promise projects you can’t deliver — but I will neither open the public purse nor pledge anything we cannot implement.”
Supporting Citizens Amid Rising Costs
Mitsotakis acknowledged ongoing financial pressures on Greek households: “Many of our fellow citizens are struggling to make ends meet. Several tax cuts we legislated have already been eroded by rising prices. The real question is who can generate wealth — to support pensioners and other vulnerable groups alike.”
