Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis attended the summit for peace and security in Ukraine, held at the Élysée Palace following an initiative by French President Emmanuel Macron. Arriving shortly before 11 a.m., Mitsotakis participated in discussions expected to conclude around 3 p.m. Greek time. Upon arrival, Mitsotakis received a warm welcome from President Macron, who greeted leaders including Turkish Deputy President Sevdet Yilmaz. Inside the palace, NATO’s General Secretary Mark Rutte met with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, while Macron held meetings with Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Starmer. The Ukraine summit brings together dozens of world leaders, continuing into Friday when Nicos Anastasiades, President of Cyprus, and Lebanese President Michel Aoun will also meet with Macron. This marks the first quadrilateral summit between Greece, France, Cyprus, and Lebanon at the highest level. The summit aims to implement ‘security guarantees’ for Kyiv as part of a potential peace agreement with Russia, involving ongoing negotiations with the U.S. This is the third such summit, encouraging participation from numerous countries in the so-called ‘coalition of the willing.’ Leaders from 31 EU and NATO countries, along with the UK, Canada, Norway, and Turkey, have been invited. President Zelenskyy is already in France since Wednesday evening. Macron’s goal is to secure a clear commitment for short-term support to Ukraine should a ceasefire occur.
