Kuwait has implemented a preventive reduction in crude oil production and refining capacity amid escalating tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, according to a statement released today by Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), the country’s state-owned oil company.
Response to Regional Uncertainty
The move follows ongoing Iranian attacks targeting Kuwaiti interests and recent Iranian threats concerning the safe passage of vessels through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz — a key maritime chokepoint through which nearly 20% of the world’s oil passes.
Risk Management Strategy
KPC emphasized that the adjustment is part of its broader risk management strategy for the global oil market and aims to ensure continuity of operations. The corporation stressed that the measure is strictly precautionary and will be reassessed regularly depending on how the regional situation evolves.
KPC remains prepared to restore production levels as soon as conditions allow.
