Hours after the stormy meeting of SYRIZA’s Political Secretariat—and in the wake of Alexis Tsipras’s recent interview—MP Kostas Barkas made remarks that are already sparking discussion. Speaking to ERT News, Barkas was asked whether SYRIZA would run in the next elections. His response: “SYRIZA will be present in the elections—but not necessarily as a unified party.”
A Call to Avoid a New Central Committee
Earlier in the same interview, when asked to comment on the discussions held during his party’s Political Secretariat meeting, Barkas stressed: “In my view, a new central committee should not be formed.”
Sharp Words for Pavlos Polakis
Barkas delivered pointed criticism toward fellow MP Pavlos Polakis, stating: “There are people whose decisions and actions have deeply harmed the party—and harmed it severely. It would be best if they stopped doing so. They should respect a political space that made them MPs and ministers—a party that did not belong to the extra-parliamentary left, but was a parliamentary force that nonetheless embraced individuals from that very tradition. It would be wise for them to stop inflicting further damage.”
