A call to protect green areas in Athens is being made by the former mayor, Kostas Bakoyannis, through a Facebook post on Wednesday morning (2.7.25). Using the example of Koropouli Park in Sepolia, he describes a disappointing situation regarding green spaces across the city, urging immediate action. ‘The Koropouli Park in Sepolia was for years a dump. Inside it were an old factory and ruins. Yet we demolished it and built a park from scratch — green everywhere. Trees, flowers, fountains, children’s playgrounds. Today? Everything is deteriorating. The greenery has dried up. The fountain doesn’t work. And this is not an isolated case. We see the same throughout Athens,’ he states in his post. ‘Green spaces are dying. We don’t have any more time to waste. We must save what can be saved. Because temperatures are rising again. And greenery is not a luxury. It’s a necessity,’ writes the former mayor of Athens.
