Koropi: Officer Rescues Elderly Couple from Flash Floods – ‘I Won’t Let You Go’

Moments of panic unfolded in Koropi. An elderly couple became trapped amid torrential rains on January 21 and were unable to return to their nursing home. The incident only came to light on Thursday, February 5, 2026, when rescue footage surfaced showing the two seniors narrowly escaping drowning. Using makeshift ropes fashioned from bed sheets—and with support from Rapid Response police officers—the couple was rescued amid severe weather conditions. Under police guidance, the man and woman tied two sheets together to form a human chain. Simultaneously, an officer crossed the road, transformed into a raging stream, to reach them. First, the woman was safely carried across, followed by her husband. The elderly man recounted slipping during the attempt—but the officer held him firmly, saying, ‘I won’t let you go.’ The couple was brought to safety and received first aid from fellow residents of their nursing home.
