Konstantopoulou Accuses ND MPs of Extortion

Konstantopoulou Calls Police Over ND MPs, Accuses Them of Attempted Extortion

Following a heated incident involving MP Ioanna Lytrivi—who broke down in tears after an altercation with Freedom Party leader Elissavet Kondylidou—the political tension escalated sharply. MP Zoe Konstantopoulou summoned police to the Hellenic Parliament and demanded the arrest of New Democracy (ND) MPs, accusing them of attempted extortion as a felony-level criminal offense.

‘An Immediate Felony Requires Police Intervention’

“The police authorities must intervene immediately regarding this in-flagrante delicto felony committed by ND MPs,” Konstantopoulou stated emphatically.

She alleged that the ND MPs are acting in concert with Maria Syreggela, who has filed a €300,000 civil lawsuit against her for alleged personality rights violations.

The parliamentary session was temporarily suspended by the Presiding Officer—but calm did not return. A heated confrontation soon erupted in the corridors of Parliament between Konstantopoulou and Nikos Karathanasopoulos, MP of the Communist Party of Greece (KKE).

During the exchange, Konstantopoulou asked Karathanasopoulos: “Sir, do you act independently—or are you taking orders from Georgantas?” To which he responded: “Do us a favor—bravo! Come on, bravo!” She retorted: “Sexists!”

Ethics Committee Recommends Referral

It bears noting that the Parliamentary Ethics Committee has decided to recommend to Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis that Konstantopoulou be referred for disciplinary action. This follows deliberations on complaints submitted against her by MPs Andreas Nikolakopoulos and Maria Syreggela.

In their formal complaints, both MPs accused Konstantopoulou of anti-parliamentary conduct during proceedings of the investigative committee on the OPEKEPE scandal—a committee where Nikolakopoulos served as chair and Syreggela as deputy chair.
