Following a recommendation by Justice Minister Giorgos Floridis, Konstantinos Tzavellas has been appointed as the new prosecutor of Areios Pagos. Tzavellas was recently voted by his peers at the Areios Pagos and secured the second position in the parliamentary presidents’ conference for the prosecutor role.

The first position had been awarded to Deputy Prosecutor Vasilis Floridis, the minister’s brother, sparking discussions. The new prosecutor will serve a one-year term, concluding in June 2026.

Simultaneously, Vice President Anastasia Papadopoulou has been elected as the new President of Areios Pagos. Although she came fourth in the vote among senior judges, with Alexandra Apostolaki taking the top spot, Papadopoulou secured the majority in the parliamentary presidents’ conference, leading to her final selection.

Papadopoulou is a seasoned judicial official with extensive experience, including a three-year tenure as director at the National School of Judges.
