A rally organized by the Communist Party of Greece (KKE) took place at Syntagma Square in central Athens to express solidarity with Cuba. Demonstrators began gathering at 6:30 p.m., responding to the KKE’s call “against the sanctions and economic blockade imposed by the United States on the island of Cuba.”
KKE Leader to Address Crowd, March to U.S. Embassy Planned
Shortly, KKE Central Committee General Secretary Dimitris Koutsoumpas is expected to deliver a speech and address the crowd. Following his remarks, participants will stage a protest march toward the U.S. Embassy on Vasilissis Sofias Avenue.
Focus on Condemning U.S. Sanctions
The demonstration centers on condemning restrictive U.S. measures against Cuba, which organizers say have intensified recently—disrupting the country’s supply of essential goods including fuel, food, and medicines. The KKE is calling for the immediate lifting of the embargo and opposing any external interference in Cuba’s internal affairs.
“We are facing a period of great storm for our people,” read a statement issued by the party.
Traffic Disruptions Across Central Athens
Due to the rally, heavy traffic has been reported across central Athens. Vassilissis Amalias Avenue is closed to traffic, while major congestion is affecting Vasileos Konstantinou and Vasilissis Sofias Avenues.
