On May 23, 2025, the Criminal Court sentenced the notorious ‘grandpa thieves’ responsible for Kim Kardashian’s robbery in Paris to terms of imprisonment up to eight years. The harshest sentence, eight years (with five suspended), was handed down to Omar Ait Kenta, the mastermind behind the heist. However, due to previous convictions and health conditions, none of the defendants will return to prison. Two men accused of providing valuable information about Kardashian’s schedule were acquitted. The court took into account that none of the defendants had committed any offenses in the past nine years. Judge David de Pas remarked that the primary defendants’ health conditions made incarceration unjust. The 69-year-old Omar Ait Kenta, nicknamed ‘Old Omar,’ who is now deaf and almost blind, was found guilty of orchestrating the October 2-3, 2016, theft of jewelry worth €9 million. Fellow defendant Didier Dibré, also 69, received a seven-year sentence but was absent from the courtroom due to cancer treatment. Yunes Abbas, 71, and Marc-Alexandre Bouaghe, 35, were sentenced to the same term. Kentas’ son, Armin, was sentenced to five years, while his ex-partner, Cathy Goulet, received four years with suspension. Kim Kardashian expressed satisfaction with the verdict through her lawyers, stating it was the most terrifying experience of her life and she now wishes to move on.
