Port infrastructure projects totaling €3.76 million have been approved for the islands of Spetses and Zakynthos, aimed at upgrading and restoring key port facilities. Greek Shipping Minister Vasilis Kikilias announced the inclusion of the ‘Upgrade of Spetses Old Port Facilities’ project in the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy’s sectoral development program, with a public expenditure of €2.63 million. The project includes extending existing piers and constructing new infrastructure to improve operational efficiency. Additionally, an open tender has been launched for the ‘Restoration of Functional Depths at Zakynthos Port,’ a €1.134 million project funded by the Zakynthos Port Fund. This work aims to ensure safe and uninterrupted port operations by restoring navigable depths. Both initiatives are part of a broader strategy to enhance port infrastructure in island regions, focusing on functionality, safety, and local needs. Minister Kikilias stated, ‘These interventions respond to real demands of local communities and maritime transport. We are investing in modern, reliable infrastructure to support shipping, tourism, and daily island life, advancing our development plan step by step.’
