A shocking incident occurred yesterday (May 29, 2025) in Keratea, specifically at the local municipal area. An 8-year-old boy fell into an unprotected underground water tank with at least 2 meters of water. Fortunately, the boy was saved as he managed to stay afloat until rescuers pulled him out of the uncovered tank at the municipal field in Keratea. According to mesogianews.gr, the near-tragic event happened after the completion of a football academy training session where the boy was participating. He and a friend began playing near the new 9×9 field when he suddenly found himself inside the tank. His friend realized what had happened and alerted both the boy’s parents and other children present. Luckily, the child remained conscious after falling without hitting anything inside the tank. Cooler heads provided a rope for him to grab onto, allowing them to pull him out safely. Both the child and his mother were understandably shocked. They first went to the Keratea Health Center and then to the Children’s Hospital. Authorities were informed about the incident, and according to reports, the tank lid not only lacked a lock but was also likely left open! The mother is determined to take legal action against both the Municipality of Lavreotiki and the sports vice-mayor. Following the accident, the tank lid was secured with a lock.
