KEPE: The uncertainty over the progress of the Greek market decreased

In September, the uncertainty over the expected short-term progress of Greek , according to the “fear” indicator announced today (7.10.2024) by the Centre for Planning and Economic Research ( ) . The KEPE prepares and publishes on a monthly basis two innovative and specialized indicators aiming at regular monitoring of the economic situation on the market and today the estimates of September 2024 for the composite indicator of promotion and for the indicator of “fear”. According to the Communication, the hypothetical volatility index KEPE GRIV or ‘fear’ reflects the uncertainty of derivatives market participants over the expected short-term progress of the Greek market and is calculated on the basis of the FTSE/X.A. Large Cap options. The price of the KEPE GRIV index was reduced in September 2024, reaching 25.99% to 30/9/2024 from 26.85% to 30/8/2024. In addition, the average daily index price was reduced, reaching 26.66% in September 2024 from 28.10% in August 2024. The index remained below its historical average (as of January 2004) for the Greek market, which is 32.10%. The development of the index reflects a reduction in uncertainty about the expected short-term progress of the Greek market compared to the end of the previous month, with fluctuations within the month. The Component Prognosis Index (SPS), based on a dynamic factor model, is constructed using six selected monthly economic variables with pre-conditional characteristics and provides preliminary indications on the course and conversions to Greek economic activity, before being reflected in the current sizes of overall economic activity. According to the most recent observation for June 2024, the GPA has risen again, reaching a new peak for the entire review period. The ongoing favourable path of the GSP reflects the strengthening of the expectations and assessments of participants in economic activity, providing preliminary indications for improving future economic conditions. On this basis, it is considered that no adverse effects arising from inflationary pressures and geopolitical risks persist. In order to obtain additional indications, it is necessary to reassess the GSP. The integration of new data is expected to provide additional information on the progress of future domestic economic activity.
